During our last check-up, my OB had me undergo a transvaginal ultrasound and immediately after starting the procedure asked me if we have twins in the family. I said there was none in our family but there was in Eds's, in fact his grandmother has a twin sister. It skipped two generations already, so I dread that we might have twins. My OB said that she believes she sees what is seemingly two embryos and even had each one isolated to hear the heartbeat. The prominent one has 164bpm, while the other has a much slower heartbeat at 196bpm. She told me us that she would require another transvaginal ultrasound after two weeks to confirm if it is indeed a twin pregnancy.

Luckily, after having my third transvaginal ultrasound, we found out that it is just a single gestation which means there is only one fetus. While I love the sight of twins, I know how physically demanding it would be and since we waited three years for this pregnancy, I think we will be able to enjoy and give our full attention if there is only one baby around in the meantime. My next visit will be on February 16 and I am just as glad that the next ultrasound will no longer be transvaginal (which I really, really hate by the way).
