Church: St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel.

This used to be the longest church in Cavite.

The Parish of St. Michael, the Archangel was created as a separate parish from Kawit on January 18, 1792 by virtue of the Royal Cedula issued by Ferdinand VI, King of Spain, to the Spanish Governor General in the Philippines, Luis Perez Dasmariñas. Record shows that the chapel in Bacoor, that would later become the Parish of St. Michael, the Archangel, was established in 1669 where it was constructed by bamboos, straws, and nipa. The Parish of St. Michael, the Archangel has within her parochial jurisdiction encompassing the whole town of Bacoor.

The patron image, depicting a triumphant St. Michael, the Archangel, was a gift from the King of Spain with its intricately designed silver and wooden carozza surrounded by small replicas of the seven Archangels. The image of St. Michael, the Archangel is also vested with a silver armor plate and accessories embellished with precious stones.During the term of Rev. Fr. Mariano Gomes from 1824 to 1872, the structure of the church was changed to its present architecture of adobe and tegula. Unequipped with modern-day concrete cement mix, thousand of duck egg whites were utilized to bond the huge boulders of adobe. After the term of Fr. Gomes, as a result of his martyrdom, the parish was given under the care of the Augustinian Recollects.

The parish church of St. Michael, the Archangel had its own share of withstanding the test of time. It has endured a lot of earthquakes and calamities, fire reduced it to ashes, but the effects of the Filipino-Spanish war reduced into half what was known before as the longest church in Cavite. Today, the parish Church stood majestically firm on the same ground where it was erected 256 years ago.
